 Rental conditions for rental bicycles 

 THE ELECTRIC BICYCLE AND ITS USE

1. By accepting the rented bicycle, the renter acknowledges that it and its accessories are in safe, roadworthy, defect-free and clean condition.

 2. The renter may use the bicycle only in the customary manner and in compliance with the legal regulations, in particular the Highway Code. It must not be used off paved roads or for any purpose other than its intended use.

 3. The bicycle may only be ridden by the renter.

 4. The bicycle may not be used for testing, commercial purposes, trips abroad or illegal purposes without the lessor’s written consent.

 5. The renter agrees to lock the rental bicycle using the bicycle lock provided.

 6. The lessor expressly recommends wearing a bicycle helmet.

 II. RENTER’S OBLIGATIONS

1. The renter agrees to take good care of the bicycle, follow the technical guidelines and leave it locked in a safe place.

 2. The renter agrees to inform the lessor of any defects that occur during the rental period when returning the bicycle.

 III. REPAIRS

If repairs are necessary, the lessor will cover the costs unless they are caused by damage to the bicycle for which the renter is at fault or by a breach of the rental agreement. The renter is responsible for such circumstances.

 IV. ACCIDENT/THEFT

 The renter must notify the lessor immediately if the bicycle is involved in an accident or is stolen. In the event of an accident, the renter must provide the lessor with a detailed written report, including a sketch. The accident report must include, in particular, the names and addresses of the people involved and any witnesses, as well as the registration numbers of any vehicles involved.

 V. LIABILITY

 1. The renter must return the bicycle in the same condition in which it was received.

 2. The renter is liable for damage to the bicycle caused by their negligence and for breach of their contractual obligations. The renter must also cover any consequential costs of the damage.

 3. The renter is released from the obligation to compensate the lessor to the extent that the lessor is compensated for the damage by a third party.

 VI. LESSOR’S EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY

The lessor is not liable regardless of fault. The lessor is liable only in cases of intent or gross negligence. In cases of slight negligence, the lessor is liable only for breaches of essential or typical contractual obligations. If the lessor is held liable by a third party due to the renter’s breach of this rental agreement, statutory provisions or official requirements, the renter must fully indemnify the lessor and fulfil all related obligations.

 VII. RETURNING THE BICYCLE

 1. The renter must return the bicycle to the lessor at the agreed location no later than the end of the agreed rental period, during the lessor’s business hours. Returns outside business hours are at the renter’s own risk.

 2. The rental period may only be extended with the lessor’s consent before it expires.

 3. If the bicycle is not returned on time, the renter must pay the lessor the daily rental fee for each

 day or part thereof and, where applicable, compensate the lessor for any additional damage.

 4. On return, the bicycle must be checked for obvious defects, and the result recorded in the agreement. The renter must report any defects that occur during the rental period.

VIII. FINAL PROVISIONS

 1. No other side agreements exist. Any amendments or additions to this agreement must be made in writing. This also applies to this written-form requirement.

 2. If any provision of this agreement is or becomes invalid, this shall not affect the validity of the remaining provisions.

 Operating instructions

 We assume that you are familiar with riding a bicycle.

 • Familiarise yourself with the handbrake by applying it gently. Please also note that braking performance changes in wet conditions (longer braking distance; after the brakes dry, the wheels may lock if the brake is applied fully).

• Please ride the city e-bike only on suitable, level road surfaces, not off-road. To avoid unnecessary damage to the bike, always watch the road surface here in the national park, which can be challenging due to tree roots and slate stones. Avoid such surfaces and reduce your speed.-

 • The coaster brake (if fitted) reaches full braking power only when the cranks are parallel to the ground. Braking power in low gears (e.g. 1st gear) is significantly stronger than in high gears (e.g. 3rd gear).

 • Please do not use the coaster brake continuously on long downhill rides; allow it to cool down from time to time. Otherwise, malfunctions and damage may result. Use the rim brakes more, and use the coaster brake only for brief braking.

 • Shift gears only while riding. Reduce pedalling force to shift safely. Loud clanking indicates excessive pedalling force!

 • Make sure the tyres are inflated to the nominal pressure of 3.8 bar (indicated on the tyre sidewall). An over- or under-inflation of more than 1 bar can damage the tyres and rims.

 • Observe the minimum insertion depth for the seat post and handlebar stem (7 cm each/marked!).

 We would also like to draw your attention to a few specific features of electric bicycles.

 • Activate the electric assist by briefly tapping the display to switch it on.

 • Switch the electric assist off in the same way.

 • Start riding with electric assist at the lowest setting and increase it only after you have had some time to get used to the bike.
